I’ve got a 2016 Range Rover Sport with the ZF 8HP and there’s this high pitched whine that changes pitch with engine speed, not road speed, which makes me think it’s the transmission pump or maybe the torque converter. My regular garage in Dubai doesn’t do internal gearbox work so they said I need a specialist. I’ve been looking at a Land Rover Gearbox Workshop Sharjah that claims to have the right ZF tools, but I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth the drive versus just biting the bullet and going to the dealer. The dealer will cost a fortune but gives me a loaner car, while the Sharjah option might save me thousands but I’d have to arrange my own transport for a week. Has anyone here actually compared the two for a Land Rover? Like did the independent shop find the real problem or just throw parts at it? I’m leaning towards saving money but I don’t want to end up back there twice.
